The foundations contract for Mega Tower, located on the West of Kowloon Peninsula with an uninterrupted view over the Hong Kong bay, was awarded to Bachy Soletanche Group-Intrafor Joint Venture.
The composite concrete/steel tower will be used for hotel and office space and will be the world's tallest tower at 480m high (that's 102 floors and a total weight of 560,000 tons).
The works include:
- a circular d-wall shaft, 1,5m thick, 75m deep, 76m diameter, allowing a 28m deep excavation;
- 240 barrettes of 2,8m x 1,5m, up to 100m deep,
i.e. a total diaphragm wall and barrettes excavation of 92,000m², and 91,000m3 of concrete;
- the general earthworks/bulk excavation and capping beams construction;
- the 8m thick base slab;
- the monitoring of the excavation and its surroundings.
The plant mobilised by Bachy Soletanche Group-Intrafor Joint venture will include 2 hydrofraises, 1 cutter BC 40 and 4 cables grabs.
The contract duration is 600 calendar days beginning on 11 January 2002.
