Construction of a safety tunnel in the Meudon rail tunnel

French rail network operator SNCF Réseau has awarded a consortium made up of Bessac (leader), Chantiers Modernes Construction and Soletanche Bachy France (all VINCI Construction companies) with the contract to build this safety feature on line C of the RER Paris expressway.

This involves several elements:

· Special works at the tunnel mouth: nailing, shotcrete, piles, grouting
· A tunnel 1700m long with an internal diameter of 3.50m, dug by an Earth Pressure Balanced TBM specially manufactured for this project by Bessac
· Two connecting branches with the SNCF tunnel, dug using NATM methods
· A technical facility

This contract follows on from a previous one carried out by Soletanche Bachy France and Soletanche Bachy Tunnels to build the approaches to the branches from the rail tunnel.

Work on this latest one is scheduled to start in February and run for two years.
